Synopsis: Bailey Gray is tired of her perfectly planned life. Everything about her life has been organized and lived out to the expectations set of her parents. She is the class valedictorian, has perfect grades, the perfect friends, a perfect boyfriend, basically perfect life...or so everyone thought. That's when she realizes the path planned isn't always the path chosen.
On graduation day she makes a decision. One that changes everything she thought she knew about her intended future.
On a whim, she runs away with the town rebel, Dylan Wade, in search of the unknown.
Dylan Wade isn't looking to run away from anything.
He knows what he wants as he's been waiting on it for years.
On a journey to find the unknown, they discover a friendship they once knew along the open highway and have not a care in the world. Between the yellow and white lines of the heated summer asphalt, a spark draws them together as Dylan's past and Bailey future try to ripe them apart.Could it be that Dylan and his GTO are exactly what her perfectly planned life needs? (From Goodreads)
Waiting For You is what Beautiful Disaster would look like if it hit the road. I was attracted to this book because of the cover (gorgeous!) and the road trip alluded to in the synopsis. The beginning was a little rocky, but I was pretty much sold when Bailey upsets her high school graduation. That was a killer scene that totally had me hooked. From there it's a whirlwind of excitement, craziness, and high emotions.
I was worried about liking Bailey. The description of her coming from her "perfectly planned life" had me worried that she'd be a little cookie-cutter. But she's so bold, that I threw away all the - girl who grew up sheltered and wants to let loose - stereotypes in fiction. I absolutely loved that she felt the need to be free and do what she wanted to do - and she didn't hold back. She wasn't timid about trying new things and she even did some things that were dangerous or bad for her. I also really appreciated that it wasn't something where she was clearly out of her element or that she'd go back to her safe life. It actually felt like she was meant to be wild all along and she'd really just been repressed.
I'm not really sure what to say about Dylan. He's got that whole free-spirit, I don't care what people thing, I'm gonna do what I want to do - thing going on, which is usually right up insta-crush alley for me. However, Dylan also has some very unattractive qualities, mainly extreme possessiveness and jealousy. I kind of wanted to tell Bailey to run away a few times. Because for all the freedom she gains on this impulsive road trip - she's kind of just locking herself in another, kind of dangerous, cage. However, Dylan is a musician who, to my delight, sings Framing Hanley - which is the band that I listened to in the midst of my freshman at college angst. So he got major points there.
Relationship drama and family drama aside, this is definitely a road trip I'd want to go on. It sounds fabulous. Lots of randomness, lots of fun, lots of new people, and of course the great feeling of freedom and something new. I so enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it if you like relationships in the same vein as Abby and Travis from Beautiful Disaster. They're incredibly intense, probably unhealthy and incredibly passionate. Although, if you've already read this book, reach out to me - I kind of need to vent about the ending. I can't really sort out my own feelings about it and would love to talk about it!
