November Top 5

It's the holiday season! I'm already getting into the lazy - I just want to bake cookies and read all day - mindset. November has been another slow reading month for me, but I'm nearing the end of the semester so my pile of books I need to catch up on are stacking up. I can't wait until I can get through all the books I've been meaning to read. But first - my top reads in November! 

1. Sweet Thing by Renee Carlino

I'm all kinds of in love with this book. It's a gorgeous story that still gets me all worked up and agitated in the best way possible. Read my full review here and then go read it. Seriously, read it now. 

2. Cress by Marissa Meyer

This is one of the handful of series that is prominent in my heart right now. It's amazing how Marissa Meyer takes a crazy concept and makes it so complex, so large, and so plausible. It's just the most impressive thing. And Cress was the perfect addition to the group of fairy-tale inspired heroes tasked with saving Earth. 

3. Racing Savannah by Miranda Kenneally

I just get the warm-fuzzies when I read Miranda Kenneally. Racing Savannah comes in second only to Catching Jordan in the Hundred Oaks series. Read my full review here. 

4. A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers

Another great new adult from Lisa! I was a little apprehensive about where Alessandro's story would go, but I was delighted when it brought us to Hilary and the wonders of New York. She's just killin' it in the NA world right now. My full review is here. 

5. All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

I read this one at the insistence of my roommate who has impeccable and hard-to-please taste in books and it was just so impressive. I don't know how Cristin pulled off writing two different characters who are the same person, but it was a great idea. Plus, I always love books about time travel that don't make me feel like an idiot for getting confused about time travel.

November Top 5

November was a crazy month you guys. A lot of things changed and my life got way busier. Which sadly left less time for reading. I'm actually going to be pulling back on the blog a little bit. I used to post 5 times a week and now I'm shooting for 2-3 times. Anyways, I still read some awesome books and here are the top five from November.

1. The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd

I'm just going to describe this for you the same way I described it to my friend: It has a crazy surgeon, a remote island, and lots of improper behavior for 1890. Watch out for this one you guys! It's different and it's awesome. Don't miss it. 

2. The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Michelle Hodkin wins again. Noah love forever. 

3. Slammed by Colleen Hoover

This book punched me in the soul. I was finishing it at 4 AM and my poor roommate had to ask if I was okay because I was sobbing so hard. 

4. Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill

I read this the day after Slammed. This book is the exact opposite of Slammed. It's light and cheery. And it's in London. Traveling is happiness. 

5. Find You in the Dark by M. Meredith Walters

I don't think I breathed through this book. It had me constantly on the edge waiting for something to blow up. And that ending. Whoa. Watch out for this author. 

What were your top reads in November?

November Top 5

Every month I come up with the top five books I read that month. I'm a little behind on reviews (as you can probably tell by my left side bar) so the reviews for these books are coming up early in December. But I still think it's worth mentioning these books. This is my way of distinguishing what I loved to what I freaked out about. My mom asked me this week if I just love everything I read - and while I like a lot of things (I do dislike books every now and again) I do have my books that surpass others and become the ones that jump into my head any time I'm asked for recommendations. These books are the ones that stood out to me this month.

1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

This book is definitely in my top five for the entire year and has made it onto my top favorite YA books EVER. It's so imaginative and gorgeous. It's not only an incredible and unique story - the way that it's told is so magnificent. I can't praise this book enough - you just have to read it.

2. The Pledge by Kimberly Derting

This one I have actually reviewed, and you can read that here. This was a great November release. I love that it's a cross between a dystopia and a fairy-tale, which makes it feel different than other dystopias. I also had a lot of fun putting together a playlist for this novel, which you can check out here. 

3. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

This one just makes me want to sigh with far off wonderment. Theres something so magical in this story. It's written with such grace, especially for such a brutal setting, that it just wraps you in its pages until it becomes a part of who you are.


4. Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday

Okay, so over Thanksgiving break I went on a total contemporary kick. I usually read a contemporary book here and there, but I just plowed through one right after the other. And this one completely shocked me. I expected it to be pretty fluffy, nothing too important. Imagine my surprise when there was actually an important reflection on social conventions that surfaced at the end.


5. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

Part of my contemporary marathon. I've been meaning to read this book for ages and I finally picked it up. I fell in all kinds of love with everyone in this book. Another really great, really raw, portrayal of high school life. And it's from a new voice - the girl who always feels like a sidekick. I think most girls will be able to relate to this story.
